Services and Technology

Palouse Imaging Consultants (PIC) has a long history of providing new and innovative medical imaging services to our region. Our group were the first to introduce Multi Detector CT, High Field MRI, DEXA, Nuclear medicine, Stereotactic Guided Biopsy, and 3D Mammography. PIC also designed and hosts the first dedicated Women’s Imaging Center in our state. We are proud to have garnered national and international recognition by the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) for our pioneering work in bringing 3D Mammography to the Inland Northwest. Our equipment is second to none, and we continue to lead by bringing in new and exceptional technologies to better care for our community members.

The Schweitzer Nuclear Medicine Suite

The Schweitzer Nuclear Medicine Suite was made possible by the generous support of Ed and Beatriz Schweitzer through the Gritman Foundation.

Nuclear Medicine is a branch of Imaging that safely uses small amounts of radioactive material to analyze both the structure and function of multiple organ systems. This technology enables the diagnosis of a variety of diseases, including many types of cancers, heart disease, and other ailments.

This suite represents the newest and most advanced nuclear medicine camera in the region. Our radiologists introduced Nuclear Medicine to the Palouse more than 40 years ago and we continue to deliver the latest advances in this technology to care for our patients.

3D Mammography

The Women’s Imaging Center is capable of producing 3D Mammograms, an innovation that has been hailed as the greatest advancement in breast cancer detection in the past 20 years. Compared to traditional 2D Mammography, the 3-Dimensional version is diagnostically superior in every way, leading to a stronger likelihood of early detection and fewer follow-up studies.

PIC was the first in the region to introduce this technology, and we were selected as one of just nine hospitals in the world to work with the manufacturer to evaluate their Computer-Aided Detection (CAD) software. This technology is now the industry standard and is used in all HologicTM 3D units nationwide.

As the region’s first and only center of its kind, the state-of-the-art Women’s Imaging Center is designed to detect even the earliest signs of breast cancer and osteoporosis, while providing our patients with a supportive, encouraging environment, and empowering them to become advocates for their own health and treatment.

With a complete array of diagnostic and support equipment, we perform the following procedures:

  • 3D Mammography (Tomosynthesis)
  • Breast MRI
  • Stereotactic Breast Biopsy
  • Needle Localization Breast Biopsy
  • Breast Ultrasound
  • Osteoporosis Screening

Advanced Real-Time Fluoroscopy Imaging

Fluoroscopy uses X-ray imaging to evaluate the inner workings of your body. This
equipment produces moving X-Ray images that allows our radiologists to evaluate both the structure and function of various organs in real-time.

Our radiologists utilize this equipment to precisely guide needles and other devices to conduct minimally invasive surgical, pain relief, and other interventional services for our patients.

Palouse Imaging Consultants is proud to be adding an Interventional Radiologist in 2024 who will help us greatly expand the breadth and depth of Fluoroscopy services we provide.
